The Lodge – Balham

Having eaten at Jimmy Garcia's pop-ups in London, and some of our design team even sampling his cooking in the french alps we decided to collaborate to create The Lodge. The idea was to bring the Alps to south west London, creating our very own version of an alpine lodge in Balham. We would design, build and install the set, he would bring the food.

This was our first semi-permanent pop-up and was an ambitious project to embark on, transforming a dreary space into a Savoiyard-esque restaurant in 3 days before the official press night on 23rd October 2014. The Lodge was incredibly well received with praise for both the food and the design, with many claiming it transported them in spirit to a ski lodge while immediately feeling cosy on the cold wintery nights.

We installed everything from the wall cladding to a brand new bar and back bar, while also designing brand new chunky wooden tables, perfect for groups sharing their fantastic fondue, desert stations, signs for the walls and burnt mountain range feature wall.

The Lodge is a pop-up, and as such, was only open for 3 months then subsequently extended to 5 months due to the popularity. Hopefully in the future there will be plenty more collaborations from Jimmy's Underground Pop-Up and Firecracker Works!
